J. SIPE
Sipe is an award winning self-taught artist
from New Mexico. When he's not playing bass with the local blues
bands, he's working in his converted garage where he creates
carved paintings, mixed media pieces and unusual shadow boxes.
His work has shown in exhibitions and galleries in New Mexico,
Arizona and Washington D.C. and has appeared in Shaman's Drum
Magazine, Mind Science Journal, The Collector's Guide and Santa
Fean Magazine. His artwork is prized and collected by art lovers
in the USA and worldwide. Mixed media on 5.5 x 7 inches on pine
board. Recycled aluminum can pieces are used to embellish all
these gorgeous paintings. All edges painted and ready to hang.
J.D.'s other passion besides folk art
is music. He has been a professional musician for more than
33 years performing in salloons, dancehalls, honky-tonks,
roadhuoses and nightclubs throughout the Southwest. He's had
the honor of playing with some heavy-weight blues guys like
Homesick James, Joe Huston, Buddy Ace and Wild Child Butler. He
loves to tell the story about the night that Steve Winwood
sat in with his band at the Chicago Bar in Tucson.
j.d. was born in 1951 in the small farming community of New
London, Wisconsin but has lived most of his life in the Southwest.
The sights and sounds and colors and flavors of the border
are the main influence on his art.
